For those of you who want to know what I'm up to lately....

The rules: Comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list ten things you LOVE that begin with that letter. Afterward, post this in your journal and give out some letters of your own.

OK, so the lovely lady I got this from gave me a "U" (ACK!!!), so here goes, in no particular order....

1:Umami- I admit it, the commercial jingle is nifty and stylish. however, the taste sensation... mmmm.... I loves me some MSG. It's naturally present in some of my favorite things- soy sauce, red wine, and parmasean cheese!

2:Understanding- we as a species need more of this. Peace and love too, while we are at it.

3:Underdogs- because we all need to feel like we can win sometimes, even when the odds are against us.

4:Underbelly- a kickin' tribal troupe from down under. I saw them at Rakkasah a few years back. Haven't heard of them? go look them up. Now.

5:Unmata- besides the seriously skilled dancing and crazy fun butt kicking workout, these girls are mad true to themselves. and I can get behind that.

6:Underwear- I love love love sexy fun underwear. No, I am not going to show you.

7:Umberto Eco- because his "Name of the Rose" book brings me right back to my childhood.

8:Undulations- the ultimate Ahhhhh movement, especially done niiiice andddd sloooowwww

9:Uulations- because it's fun to cheer each other on!

10:Uvula- because that was my first favorite word ever. seriously, it was. It's a great word. Like Spatula.

So y'all get to know me bettah! seven things from my 'interest' list that Pymander wants to know more about. Comment back and I'll ask you for seven of *your* interests that interest me. So, without further adieu..

1. women...

Dude. Chicks are interesting beasts. We behave (at least in 'modern western culture') with a subtly different attitude in packs than men. More under-the-rug type stuff. I grew up with four brothers in the middle of the woods, as daddy's little girl... so all this girl stuff mystifies me. Also, they're good to look at. :>

2. weirdness...

The random moments that keep life entertaining! Gotta love those.

3. bmezine...

Body Modification EZine. I like piecings. And Tattoos. And I *really* love nerds that are passionate about what they do. Behold, all of these things in one place! www.bmezine.com

4. bad movies...

A taste I inherited from my father. I am the proud, proud owner of nearly the entire cannon of Ed Wood films- I'm only missing one (which will be remedied, sooooooon!). I very much enjoy a large bowl of popcorn and a seriously bad flick to throw popcorn at.

5. reality...

Not always necessarily what it seems. And I *love* that we all perceive it differently.

6. trees...

These are becoming far too few. The family lore states that my family moved from Los Angeles when one of my brothers pointed to a telephone pole and asked "mommy- is that a tree?". So I give them all the love and attention I can.

7. truffles...

Not the chocolate variety (although those are tasty as well) but the Fungal sort. Oregon has, as a not-so-well kept secret, its own personal stash of the lovely little flavorific bombs, in both white and black. A few shavings of these...a few drops of the oil... well, we all have to eat, why not Enjoy doing so?

Subject:life as of late

Depression sucks. It just fizzles in and settles for a while. My Dad died last thursday. He was surrounded by people he loved- mom held his hand, I was at his shoulder, my boy was at mine, and Dad's best friend was there as well. It was a horrible, horrible, horrible sounding death- all night he'd been up, sounding like he was drowning, and there was nothing any of us could do. I was actually talking about the fucking bird feeder needing to be refilled when he died because I was so damned unhappy I couldn't focus on the even at hand. And when he just - stopped- it was ok. It was like he died and life went on around him.

The worst things, the things that still keep me up at night crying or with nightmares- are that 1> I'm pretty sure he was at least *partially* aware, which makes me sad- he had been so afraid, I really had holped he would be just asleep, and 2> the last few days of decline. I was there, with the aforementioned crew, for the week before it happened. The night I showed up, we all watched a bad movie together (Attack of the crab monsters, highly recommended BTW) and he was cracking jokes in good form. every day from then out was just a little worse- less words, less awake time, less smiles. The thing that makes me *reallY* lose it is the memory of my dad, who was a hell of a FORCE in life, superimposed on those last mumbling days and feeding him water with a TEASPOON.

My life over the last couple of days has sucked.

We lost our beloved feline companion to a F@()*&$)(*&*(&#*$#*$ING speeding motorist, *right in front of our house*.

I am going to write a letter and request that our tiny little street gets some speedbumps... people are using this street as a shortcut... and I would hate hate hate hate hate for anybody else to have to go through this.

I mean, really... One brother is in a car wreck and breaks his neck, one brother gets shrapnel in Iraq, and my dad's fighting an invasive and metasticized cancer that does NOT look good. And now this.

Right now I am screaming inside.

Subject:Ah, the justice card, how fitting....

Which Tarot Card Are You?

You are the Justice card. Justice preserves the harmony of the world. Working with opposite forces, Justice does not seek to criticize or condemn but rather to accept. The idea behind the card justice is that opposite forces are complementary; you could not have good without evil or light without darkness. Justice's position is to make sure that if a thing is out of balance, the weight of its energy is realigned with its opposite force. This card is also a card of humour, for it is in pointing out contrary positions that humour is often found. The attitude that is found in the humourous person, being able to shift perspective and flow with an instinct, is important in the maintenance of good balance. Damn the _flat mountain girls_ kick so much ass. I normally detest this kind of music, but...well...damn it, they are *really* good!

Eric came over and we watched Kung Fu and Return of the Dragon...saturday nights at home really are better than going out. I wonder what happened that I went from such a party girl to a homebody. Oh wait. I was never that much of a party girl. ;> (not that I'll admit to, anyways...)

Last official day of Vacation today. What have I learned? weeeellll....that I take things far too seriously sometimes. That I've got potential in the dancing department. That I overschedule. that I MUST destress more regularly.

The problem here is that these are all things that I knew before, really. So was it a life-changing experience? no. A fun get-away? yeah...

Rakkasah is comin' up soon...

Bunnny is GOOD!

I'm making a wild rice risotto using a reduction of domestic hare.... damn, it smells tasty in here. :>

We cleaned up the house today, which actually took a lot less time than I had previously anitcipated. not so bad. Also hung up a cute little suet feeder for the birds on the apricot tree, alothgough I must admit to feeling a little guilt there~ I think the starlings might get to it first. Well, we will see. I might have to hang two feeders (should make th kitty happy).

Which is not always a bad thing. It's 7pm and we've slept in, helped a freind move, gone into ashland, come back, cleaned out the gutters (shudder), started up on the back yard, taken down half of a tree, and eaten twice. I am now sipping a niccce warm Tom and Jerry... and about to start Xmas shopping. Things could certainly be worse (but I'm glad they're not!).
